Our Ministries
Busy Hands
Busy Hands meets Wednesdays at 11am to crochet prayer shawls, blankets, hats, and scarves. This year-round group offers opportunities to serve for a variety of skill levels. Prayer shawls are donated to various organizations including IU West. Blankets are donated to Sheltering Wings. Hats and scarves are donated to Avon Schools, Sheltering Wings, and Linwood Food Pantry.
Family Promise of Hendricks County
Avon Christian Church has been a long-time supporter of Family Promise since the organization’s formation. We support Family Promise by providing meals for the residents in Almost Home, raising money through our annual Mardi Gras Fundraiser, and we were the inaugural champions of Chopped at the Hendricks County Fair!
Avon Academy
In 2023, ACC began a new partnership with Avon Academy. One of the most exciting parts of this new relationship is that a small group of Busy Hands ladies go to the school to help teach crocheting through service projects and mentorship. We also collect clothing for the students and have hosted them at ACC for their winter holiday party!
First Fruits Garden
For eleven seasons, First Fruits Garden has brought together members of ACC and the greater community over a common passion of gardening, growing, and serving our neighbors. Gardeners donated a portion of their produce to local food pantries through the Hendricks County Food Pantry Coalition and Linwood Food Pantry. The garden will be on hiatus for the 2024 season as ACC reimagines what the garden will look like in the future. Thanks to all who have supported First Fruits Garden over the years!
